A few days ago, I met Jason Berrett for the first time. My wife and I just moved to Idaho from Seattle, and we have some complications with selling our Seattle home and buying another in this area. Jason is very knowledgeable when it comes to both personal and corporate income tax returns. He even told me about a deduction that my company could have been taking for the last 20 years but my Seattle accountant missed it. I'd say I'd found the right guy to take good care of our returns. Be sure to include Jason when you are deciding on a new accountant.

The receptionist was very professional and polite, and Mr. Barrett himself was very professional and helped find several tax saving tips and also has very sound investment advice. I had an outstanding experience with Berrett Tax and Finance — truly 11/10 service. Jason is incredibly knowledgeable and advanced when it comes to tax strategy. I had a complex situation involving income from two different states, and he handled it with ease and confidence. Not only did he take care of my 2024 return, but he also helped me file for 2023. I’m confident he maximized my refund, and he took the time to clearly explain everything along the way. Highly recommend Jason if you want someone who knows the ins and outs of the tax world and actually cares about getting you the best result.

First time using a tax specialist and I was very dissatisfied. He charged over $300 an hour just to literally put in the info I had gotten by myself. He wasted my time and told me I needed to do two appointments which I feel like all of this could’ve easily been done in one. The rates he charged are ridiculous, he charges as if he’s a lawyer. This is a scam. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY!!

Let me start by saying that we've never used a tax specialist before.. we just moved to Idaho and looked some up.. we decided to go with Berrett tax. We set up our meeting at 9:00 AM. He finally called us back at 9:08 and we answered some questions. He was just typing away.. keep in mind.. he's NOT CHEAP.. We also had to do a TON of pre paperwork online and input all of our information, which is fine, but what the heck did he do to charge us so much if everything was already there? I am now a owner of a business and was looking forward to having him help me find ways to have write offs.. after sitting for an hour.. he pulled up our taxes and showed us what we owe.. I said ok and said I would love some advice on how to have some tax write offs for my business. He sated oh yea I can help with that, but you'll need to set up another appt. I got nothing out of him. He charged us over $700 and I'm not even sure what for. He stated he had pre-worked on our account before we shoed up.. but I have no idea what he did or for how long. We received no breakdown of why it cost what it did.. and no help otherwise. I have since asked other Tax consultants and they stated that seems highly unfair and unusual. Of course he wants to charge me $350.00 an hour for " advice ". Now talking to others and asking friends, I would never go back and do not recommend Berrett Tax. He over booked and had to kick us out quickly as others were then waiting in the lobby. Not a fan of Berrett and highly disappointed. Will not be going back.

I selected this firm due to the high reviews which based on our interaction must be from friends/family leaving fake reviews because this was the most awful and unprofessional interaction. We scheduled a tax planning session, I spoke to someone in his office three different times before our meeting and asked what was needed to prepare for the meeting. Day of the meeting my husband and I show up via zoom and he immediately is having technical issues of which he is showing up upside down which he says "is probably not worth taking the time to fix" he clearly did not care what he looked like. He did not prepare for our meeting did not look at our notes or documents and did not know if we were even married which would have been an easy thing for an accountant to tell if you glance at our tax return.He called my husband by the wrong name. Then he proceeded to spend ten minutes telling us what his fee was and how he needed to overcharge us to protect his time and would refund time we didn't use. He wanted information to charge before we could talk, and told me he was discounting his time as is so the time it was taking me to look for my routing number and bank info and that I "should be fine." He then put the blame on me for not having received his service contract before saying I must have not looked at the email after I told him I definitely looked and nothing was sent to me and I had spoken to someone in his office three separate times and emailed his assistant my documents. As an attorney I understand billable hours but that was beyond ridiculous. His zoom connection then cut off at which point we decided this was a terrible sign and would not be proceeding with someone so unprofessional. He called back and told my husband we were being "too strict" about not wanting his services because he was not prepared. Funny how he wasn't being "too strict" when charging me for my time to go and look for my bank information that he never told me I would need to provide to begin with. Apparently he seems to think his time is worth a lot but your time isn't.
A great accountant is worth the time and knowledge to help you prepare and minimize tax liabilities and I am happy to pay for the service but not this guy he seems like a snake oil salesman who is only concerned with taking money and is clearly unprofessional. I would not trust someone so disorganized, unprofessional, and disrespectful to provide adequate financial services.

Paid over $700 for a tax strategy session and the only advise that I got was to max out my 401K. Beware, seems like Jason is only focused on one thing, extracting as much money as possible out of his clients. If money is not an issue, he seems to be knowledgeable about tax code.
